 36 Reads DNA Typing
Effective September 1, 2010 AI sires and donor dams are required to have a parent-verified DNA profile on file prior to registration of progeny. AI Sires and donor dams having a DNA profile on file with IBBA prior to September 1, 2010, are grandfathered in and exempt from the parent-verification requirement. In the event that a parent of the AI sire and donor dam is deceased and a DNA sample is unavailable (semen, embryos, etc) the parent-verification requirement may be exempted providing the DNA profile cannot be constructed, at petitioners expense, from at least three direct living progeny of the deceased. IBBA reserves the right to add parent verification to any subject animal profile already on file should the missing parent’s DNA profile becomes available.
Parentage Disputes
Whenever the eligibility for recording of any animal is in doubt because of uncertain or unknown parentage, the animal will not be registered until the dispute is solved. Any application for registration after March 1, 1997 with a parentage dispute will not be registered until the dispute is solved. Any IBBA animal recorded in the IBBA registry that has a “Parentage Dispute” listed in the first three-generation pedigree is removed from producing registerable offspring and may not be transferred until the dispute is solved. Animals registered prior to March 1, 1997 that have parentage disputes will be noted with an asterisk and may have natural service progeny recorded. These cattle with an asterisk will remain in the breed with the asterisk notation through six (6) generations of descendants.
